วัดแหลมสุวรรณาราม หรือ ที่ชาวบ้านที่นี่นิยมเรียกกันว่า วัดปลายแหลม เป็นวัดเก่าแก่ที่มีความสวยงามมากแห่งหนึ่งของเกาะสมุย โดยวัดถูกก่อตั้งขึ้นตั้งแต่ปี พ.ศ 2423 ตั้งอยู่ที่บริเวณบ้านปลายแหลม ค่อนไปทางด้านทิศเหนือของเกาะสมุย ภายในวัดมี รูปปั้นพระสังกัจจายน์ 

คนส่วนใหญ่รู้จักในนาม “พระอ้วน” หรือ “พระมีความสุข” โดยพระสังกัจจายน์ หมายถึง ความสุข ความรัก นั่นคือพระที่เต็มไปด้วยความรัก เป็นผู้ซึ่งให้ความรักและความสุขมาสู่ปวงชน ปกติชาวจีนกราบไหว้เพื่อขอให้ร่ำรวยและมีความสุขเยอะๆ บางคนเชื่อว่าจะสามารถขอบุตรได้ด้วย

นอกจากนี้แล้ววัดปลายแหลมยังมี เจ้าแม่กวนอิม อยู่กลางสระน้ำ สีขาวสวยงาม สูง 20 เมตร แต่ละแขนแสดงถึงแต่ละด้านของศาสนาพุทธ สามารถเดินไปที่รูปปั้นได้ ข้ามหินและสะพานหินอ่อนไปยังรูปปั้นที่อยู่กลางสระน้ำ

บริเวณโบสถ์ตามมุมต่าง ๆ มีสระเลี้ยงปลาสำหรับให้ผู้มาวัดได้ให้อาหารปลา และต้องการปล่อยปลาสะเดาะเคราะห์ ในทะเลสาปมีปลานับร้อยตัวที่เลี้ยงอยู่ วัดปลายแหลมอยู่ทางทิศเหนือของเกาะสมุยตั้งอยู่ริมถนนสายหลัก 4171 อยู่ระหว่างวัดพระใหญ่และหาดเชิงมน.

Big Buddha Temple is located on the north side of Koh Samui near Bophut Beach. The location of the temple is on a small place called "Koh Fan", originally this Fan Island was surrounded by sea water. In the past, villagers used to build a wooden bridge to connect the island between Koh Fan and Koh Samui. But each wooden bridge can only be used for 2-3 years. Later, the villagers helped build a rock dam to be a permanent road.

วัดพระใหญ่ ตั้งอยู่ทางด้านทิศเหนือของเกาะสมุยใกล้กับหาดบ่อผุด ซึ่งที่ตั้งของวัดนั้นอยู่บนเล็กๆ ที่มีชื่อว่า “เกาะฟาน” เดิมทีเกาะฟานนี้จะมีน้ำทะเลล้อมรอบ แต่ก่อนชาวบ้านใช้วิธีสร้างสะพานไม้เพื่อเชื่อมต่อระหว่างเกาะฟานกับเกาะสมุย แต่การสร้างสะพานไม้แต่ละครั้งนั้นจะมีอายุการใช้งานได้เพียง 2-3 ปีเท่านั้น ภายหลังชาวบ้านจึงได้ช่วยกันสร้างเป็นแนวสันเขื่อนหินขึ้นมาเป็นถนนอย่างถาวร ถึงแม้ “พระใหญ่” หรือ “พระพุทธโคดม” จะไม่ใช่พระพุทธรูปโบราณ แต่พระพุทธรูปปางมารวิชัยองค์สีเหลืองทองขนาดใหญ่องค์นี้ก็สร้างขึ้นตั้งแต่ปี พ.ศ. 2515 โดยมีขนาดหน้าตักกว้างถึง 5 วา 9 นิ้ว และสูง 6 วา นับเป็นพระพุทธรูปองค์ใหญ่ที่สุดของภาคใต้ เป็นที่เคารพสักการะของพุทธศาสนิกชนชาวสมุย รวมถึงได้รับความสนใจจากนักท่องเที่ยวทั้งชาวไทยและชาวต่างชาติเป็นอย่างมาก
